Sangeh Monkey Forest is another famous monkey forest located in Mengwi. This monkey forest isn’t too touristy like the one in Ubud. Sangeh can be a good alternative for travelers looking for monkey forest for prewedding with fewer crowds.
Bali Photography Guide:
The forest is filled with giant nutmeg trees capable of growing as high as 40m.
The main attractions are the hordes of Balinese monkeys that inhabit the trees and the temple, Pura Bukit Sari. Pura Bukit Sari located in the heart of the forest. The temple was originally built around the 17th century as an agricultural temple and has been restored several times, most recently in 1973. There’s a large statue of Garuda in the central courtyard. This statue symbolizes freedom from suffering and the attainment of amrita, the elixir of life.
The forest of nutmeg trees in which it lies was presumably planted deliberately a long time ago, for it is unique in Bali.
