For this session, we met at Gunung Kawi Sebatu Temple, one of the most beautiful water temples in the Ubud area.
Gunung Kawi Sebatu Temple is known for its clear spring water, stone carvings, and lush greenery. The temple has multiple levels, ponds filled with koi fish, and quiet corners that make it ideal for photography. Unlike some busier temples, this location feels more relaxed, especially in the early morning. The natural light filters through the trees and reflects softly on the water, creating a calm and elegant atmosphere for a Bali temple family photoshoot.
The family came with one daughter and one son, both curious and excited to explore the temple. Before entering, they rented traditional sarongs at the entrance, which is required when visiting Balinese temples. The sarongs added a cultural touch to the photos and blended beautifully with the temple surroundings. The neutral tones and traditional patterns complemented the stone architecture and greenery, making the overall look feel authentic.
The best time for photos at Gunung Kawi Sebatu is early morning, around 8 to 9 AM. At this time, the temple is not too crowded, the temperature is cooler, and the light is still soft. Later in the day, more visitors arrive, which can make it harder to move freely. Morning sessions allow families to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and explore comfortably.
Temples are also interesting for family sessions because they offer variety in one place. There are stone gates, traditional courtyards, water ponds, and lush gardens. Families can walk naturally from one area to another while the scenery changes subtly in the background. This keeps the photos diverse while still maintaining a cohesive look.
After finishing at the temple, we continued the session to Bayad Waterfall, which is located nearby. The short drive made it easy to combine two different locations in one morning. The waterfall added a fresh and playful atmosphere to the second half of the photoshoot.
At Bayad Waterfall, the kids became more relaxed and playful. They explored the area, walked near the water, and enjoyed the cooler environment. The parents followed closely, creating natural interactions as the family spent time together. The greenery and flowing water provided a soft contrast to the temple setting earlier.
Combining a temple and waterfall in one session creates a balanced story — starting with a cultural and calm setting, then moving into a more playful natural environment.
