Helen and Johan’s Royal Pitamaha Ubud Wedding was an intimate celebration surrounded by the lush beauty and rich cultural character of Bali. With only a few close relatives in attendance, the day felt deeply personal and unhurried, allowing the couple to focus on what mattered most: being together and celebrating with the people closest to them.
The ceremony took place in the waterfall area of Royal Pitamaha Ubud, surrounded by towering trees and dense tropical greenery. Tucked into the landscape, the ceremony setting felt wonderfully secluded, with the sound of the waterfall and the surrounding jungle creating a naturally peaceful atmosphere.
One of the things that makes The Royal Pitamaha particularly special is its traditional Balinese architecture and old-world character. The resort blends beautifully into its natural surroundings, with stone pathways, traditional structures, tropical gardens, and details inspired by Balinese culture. For couples who love Bali not only for its scenery but also for its heritage and architecture, it offers a setting with a strong sense of place.
For Helen and Johan, the location complemented their intimate celebration perfectly. The floral ceremony setup added softness and colour to the tropical surroundings, while the natural landscape remained an important part of the photographs. Rather than photographing the ceremony as an isolated setup, we wanted the images to show the couple within the environment, surrounded by the greenery, waterfall, and dramatic Ubud landscape.
Although the wedding was small, it certainly did not feel insignificant. There was an effortless warmth throughout the day, with their closest family members sharing the ceremony and witnessing this important moment.
The photographs balance intimate moments with expansive environmental images. Wide compositions allow the tropical landscape to tell part of the story, while closer photographs focus on Helen and Johan’s expressions, interactions, and the emotions shared with their family.
This is one of the qualities we love about photographing weddings at Royal Pitamaha. The landscape can become almost another character in the photographs. The tall trees, waterfall, stone pathways, tropical plants, and traditional architecture provide layers and depth without needing to over-style the images.
After the ceremony, a little rain began to fall. But rather than bringing the celebration to an abrupt stop, the weather simply became another part of their wedding story.
The tropical rain added a different mood to the evening, making the surroundings feel even more lush and atmospheric. Bali’s weather can be unpredictable, but there is something beautiful about allowing the day to unfold naturally rather than trying to control every element.
And Helen and Johan simply continued celebrating.
Their evening ended with their first dance, surrounded by the intimate atmosphere of their wedding and the tropical landscape of Ubud. With the rain lingering after the ceremony, the moment felt particularly personal and cinematic.
A Small Wedding With a Big Sense of Place
Helen and Johan’s Royal Pitamaha Ubud Wedding is a beautiful example of how an intimate wedding can still feel incredibly meaningful. They did not need a large guest list or an elaborate production to create a memorable celebration. Instead, they chose a beautiful location, brought their closest family together, and allowed the natural character of Bali to become part of their story.
For couples dreaming of an intimate Bali wedding surrounded by tropical greenery, traditional Balinese architecture, and natural landscapes, The Royal Pitamaha Ubud offers a setting that feels distinctly Balinese while remaining romantic and private.
And sometimes, when a little rain arrives, you simply keep dancing.
