Gorkem and Sinem traveled from Turkey to Bali, and Gorkem had one very special plan for their trip: proposing to Sinem in the middle of Bali’s tropical landscape.
For this Waterfall Proposal in Bali, I was more than just their photographer. I also helped Gorkem plan the surprise, find the right location, and work out the timing so everything could happen naturally. On the day, I met them at the ticket area and acted as their tour guide, guiding them down toward the waterfall without giving anything away.
Once we reached the location, the plan came together. Gorkem got down on one knee, and Sinem’s reaction was exactly the moment we had hoped for. She cried with happiness, and honestly, this is one of the reasons I love photographing proposals so much. There are so many important moments happening in just a few minutes, and being there to capture them feels very special.
A Couple With Their Own Style
Gorkem and Sinem also brought a style that felt very much like them. Their tattoos, relaxed outfits, and natural way of being together made the photographs feel less like a traditional engagement session and more like a real part of their story.
I loved photographing them against the waterfall and surrounding rocks, especially when the Bali sunlight started coming through the trees. The warm light, the mist from the waterfall, and the deep green jungle created beautiful layers in the photographs. Rather than making everything feel overly posed, we kept the session relaxed and let them enjoy the moment.
After the proposal, we spent some time taking portraits around the waterfall. Once the surprise was over, they could finally relax, laugh, hug, and simply enjoy being together without having to keep the secret anymore.
More Than Just Taking Photos
One of my favorite parts of being a proposal photographer is that the job starts long before the camera comes out. I help couples plan the surprise, choose a location, and figure out the best timing and light. Sometimes I even have to become a tour guide for the day.
For Gorkem and Sinem, their Waterfall Proposal in Bali ended with a beautiful surprise, plenty of happy tears, and a set of photographs that captured the beginning of a new chapter together.
